Swag

So, the other day in Public Speaking I had to do a speech based on the definition of a word. I was having trouble at first of thinking of a good word and then, of course, it hit me. Swag. I wrote a speech on the word swag. It was great. Here it is:

Swag:

The new generation's alternative word for "cool". The new generation originally used swag to describe anyone thought to carry themselves in a way considered by some to be sexy / cool.
Note: considered to be retarded by many others. Now it is used to describe anything thought to be cool, initiating the irk of previous generations and members of the new generation that disagree with new words. (Definition from urbandictionary.com)

The word Swag originated from Swagger, to work or behave in a very confident and typically arrogant or agressive way. (Merriam-Webster)

The word arose during the mid-late 2000's. It was made popular by the Rap and Hip-Hop genre of music. Artists such as T.I. and Soulja Boy made songs that revolved around the word. In Soulja Boy's song "Turn My Swag On" he uses this word to emphasize of rich he is and how is "swag" makes him rich. "Hopped out da bed, turn my swag on, took a look in the mirror said wassup, yeeaa i'm gettin' money."

The word sneaked into peoples vocabulary and became one of the most frequently used words on the Internet. However, nowadays I don't know that many people who use the word other than for joking. Unless you are a high-schooler. Than you can really go piss off. You have no swag. You live in your parents home and still think that YOLO means that you can do stupid shit and get by with it.

Now I must say that I love the word. It is one of my favorite words. I even bought a shirt that says in big ass white letters, SWAG. I should wear it more often now that I think about it. BUT the main point of this is that swag is such an unnecessary word.
